Dating Safety
Practical safety advice for chatting online and meeting someone in person for the first time.
Online
- Never send money. No genuine match will ask you for money, gift cards, crypto or bank details - no matter the story.
- Keep conversations on the platform until you trust the person.
- Do not share your home address, workplace, ID documents or financial information.
- Be cautious of anyone who refuses a video call, moves very fast emotionally, or has a story that keeps changing.
Meeting in person
- Meet in a public place. Arrange your own transport there and back.
- Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you expect to be back.
- Keep your phone charged, and keep an eye on your drink.
- If anything feels wrong, leave. You do not owe anyone an explanation.
Reporting

If you are in danger
Contact your local emergency services first. Online reports are not a substitute for emergency help.
